We went to nearby Willowvale in search of new trails this week with some success. We began with morning tea and a walk around Rufus Whistler Park. Hotham Creek runs through this park on Rifle Range Road. It is quite large, with several picnic spots, a skate park, a fenced dog park, toilet facilities, and pleasant pathways winding through greenery and along waterways. A few light showers kept us cool. |
From Rifle Range Road we turned left at the Pimpama School and drove through beautiful rural scenery until we came to a sign on Ruffles Road announcing the Willowvale Recreational Trail. We search high and low for the start of the trails the Ruffles Road East Reserve, but could not find it, so we decided to head in the opposite direction through Ruffles Road West Reserve. We ambled by local properties, but finally found an entrance and were rewarded with a lovely walk through eucalypt forest over gently sloping land. On crossing Fern Tree Gully Drive we entered another trail in Crystal Creek Reserve. Despite not finding the main trail, we were not disappointed by our walk, and we will definitely come back in the future to find it. But lunch was calling and we found the most delightful cafe in the middle of an industrial area at Ormeau. Noego Coffee Company is set up on two levels in a most interesting atmosphere almost like a museum of coffee artefacts. The food was amazing and the service very friendly. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the coffee as we discovered they served wine with lunch. Oh well, there is always next time.
