A very pleasant outing this week with a visit to north of Brisbane. Our main purpose was to view the photographic exhibition, Gates, at Dayboro Art Gallery, followed by a walk around this lovely town full of interesting shops and craft spots. Bobbie Jones put together a display that brings together over 100 quintessentially Australian gates that tell a story of culture, function, art, and power. We enjoyed speaking to Bobbie and taking a walk down memory lane as we viewed her photographs. After wandering around town, we headed up to Mt Mee for lunch at the Pitstop Cafe, where the view was breathtaking. Not too much walking today, but sometimes it pays to focus more on the 'hungry' than the 'hiking'.

With wet weather forecast we didn't expect to get a walk in this week, but with luck we squeezed one in between downpours. Wynnum is an oldie but a goodie, and the walk, combined with a delicious morning tea at Jenny's place, made for a very pleasant morning.
Work to build the gardens at the foot of Mt Coot-tha began in 1970 and in 1976, Brisbane Botanic Gardens was officially opened. The now well-established 56 hectare gardens feature more than 200,000 plants representing approximately 5000 species from around the world. Plants are displayed in subtly changing thematic and geographic communities. This time of year, the gardens offer a spectacle of colour and we enjoyed a leisurely day exploring their beauty. But of course, first their was cake. Colour splashed our paths at every turn. The gardens are enhanced by sculptures throughout. We completed our walk with a leisurely picnic lunch and more bubbles. Some days are just meant for this.
