The 380 hectares of Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Reserve is part of a network of coastal wetlands on the edge of Moreton Bay. The wetlands are located 19 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, between Pine River and Bald Hills Creek and includes tidal flats, mangroves, salt-marshes, melaleuca wetlands, grasslands and open forest. After several very pleasant kilometres through the peaceful wetlands and a break for morning tea, we took a short drive to Barungwarra Bushland Reserve at Bald Hills. This was another delightful discovery and we enjoyed a few more pleasant kilometres here and through nearby Canterbury Park. Today was voted a top outing due to new discoveries of such varied walking tracks, abundant birdlife, and peaceful waterways. We clocked up well over 10 kilometres, but we hardly noticed because of the flat ground and varied sights to take in.

With temperatures rising, we decided to start early on a hike through Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area. We covered 12 kilometres on various tracks enjoying different landscapes and habitats teeming with wildlife. Kangaroos are plentiful and so tame that they continue grazing as you walk by. We were lucky enough to spot 6 koalas high in the gums, some fat mud crabs in the river, a multitude of birdlife, and despite no actual viewing of echidnas, we saw many signs of their digging. All in all, it was a spectacular morning being able to appreciate our unique Australian flora and fauna. Paddington is a residential suburb three km west of central Brisbane. It was named after a farm which was named after the borough of Paddington, England. Given and Latrobe Terraces are Paddington's main activity strips and it was here we walked after taking a bus to the top of Latrobe Terrace. We walked down tree-lined avenues enjoying the panoramic views of the city, the gorgeous colours of the jacaranda trees in full bloom, the vibrant shops, the attractive old Queenslanders, workers' cottages and heritage buildings, the many beautiful murals and the newly installed trail of colourfully painted kookaburras. Trammies Corner is a quaint small park, so named as a tribute to the tram drivers who used to frequent the stores in the vicinity at Latrobe Tce during smoko. One of the city’s main depots was down the road where Paddington Central now stands and it was this depot that was destroyed by fire in 1962 thus striking the death knell for Brisbane’s trams. The Paddington Terraces Kooka! Trail shows off Kooka! and its offspring 'baby' Kooka! in a variety of combinations in 16 locations along Given and Latrobe Terraces.
Passing the Suncorp Stadium we took some time out to pose with some Queensland State of Origin champions, before continuing on to admire the Roma Street Parklands. After 11 enjoyable kilometres we enjoyed a leisurely lunch of pizza, pasta and wine at the Southbank.
HOTA (Home of The Arts) is an iconic Gold Coast destination where art, entertainment, culture and lifestyle meet. The Gallery is covered in a 3D Voronoi—a cellular-looking web laid over the entire HOTA site to bring unity and distinctiveness. A Voronoi diagram is a network of cells that occurs naturally in many plants and animals, including honeycombs and bubbles. |
