We began this perfect Qld winter's day with morning tea in the beautiful Underwood Park at Priestdale, then passed through the wetland area and into the Daisy Hill Conservation Park, where we followed the Buhot Creek Circuit. We wandered through Underwood Park on our return and completed 12 kilometres before resting over lunch. We enjoyed the greenery in Daisy Hill Conservation Park and the adjoining Neville Lawrie Reserve, thanks to recent rains. There are many trails that run through the area and, although signposted, they are not always clear about where they are heading. Still, we found our way back eventually.

Willow Vale Recreational Trail is a 6.8 kilometre out and back trail located several kilometres in from the Pimpama State School. We had done part of this trail before, starting from Ruffles Road, but could not find the entrance to the Ruffles Road Reserve East trail. This week we started from the trail entrance at the end of Shane Road, and came out at Ruffles Road at the spot we had been searching for last time. Now we know. It is quite well hidden, so if you start from Ruffles Road, look in the bush between the picnic table and the fence to the right. We walked the three segments and a little further on past Chrystal Creek Road, but the trail became quite overgrown, so we turned around and headed back for lunch.
Our plan this week was to take in some art in the city. We began at the Art Gallery on the Southbank and enjoyed an exhibition of William Yang’s work. Yang is a Queensland-born, Sydney-based photographer who integrates a photographic practice with writing, video and performance. The exhibition traces his career from documentary photography through to explorations of cultural and sexual identities and his depictions of landscape. As we left the Southbank and crossed the bridge to the city the sky turned dark with storm clouds. The heavens opened before we reached the City Gardens where we planned to see Botanica - Contemporary Art Outside. We retreated to sit out the storm over dinner and a drink. The rain left, and so had the crowds, chased home by the wet. We were fortunate to have the whole Botanica display mostly to ourselves. And the timing was perfect as the lights were full on against the dark night. Botanica is a free event and part of Brisbane Art Design 2021. The City Botanic Gardens come to life with large-scale projections, installations and interactive artworks. With few people around, we were able to enjoy the interactive installations hassle-free. |
