Despite the overcast skies on Wednesday we managed to walk a comfortable 10 kilometres at Lake Wivenhoe before the rain became too heavy. After the hour's drive from Brisbane, and before walking, we had morning tea at the Cormorant Bay picnic area. The view was rivalled only by Joc's delicious orange marmalade yoghurt cake After driving across the dam wall, a right turn into Hay Drive took us to a parking spot where we choose our route. We began with the Black Trail which followed an old sealed road up over a hill through bushland full of eucalypts and wattles. We then followed the Blue Trail, a rougher track that had a few ups and downs, following the edge of the lake, and enjoying some gorgeous lake views. The tracks were well sign posted and very peaceful. Cool greens reflected recent rains and the lake also added to the tranquility of the day. This was another delightful find to add to our list of walks. We quite enjoyed hiking it on a misty, overcast day, but we imagine a whole different feel might prevail under sunshine, so we shall return. Walking on a cool day stimulates the appetite and really makes a hiker hungry, so we were now faced with a dilemma. Should we head back to Cormorant Bay where the cafe has amazing views or should we have a pie from the Old Fernvale Bakery? The Cormorant Bay Cafe won out. Our bellies were not disappointed by the hot soup and crusty bread, and there is always a next time for pies.
