We enjoyed a short walk along the riverside and settled in at Felons at the newly developed Howard Smith Wharves. It sits under the Story Bridge and provided the perfect vantage point to watch the twilight descend and the city lights come on. |
It is hard to believe another year has passed so quickly. I have been walking for five years with the Hungry Hikers and in that time we have managed to munch our way around the great south east of our beautiful state and cover hundreds of kilometres together. This week we headed for the city in the late afternoon to celebrate our friendship and take a peek at the festive lights around the city centre. But first, there was food. And drinks of course! We tried some of the beers brewed on site here and they were delicious - just the thing to sip on a balmy tropical afternoon. Hamburgers and wine followed, after which we followed the river back to Eagle Street and headed for St Stephen's Cathedral to enjoy the gorgeous sound and light show. Then it was on to City Hall and the Enchanted Garden at Roma Street Parkland. The huge crowds made it difficult to appreciate the full beauty of the gardens, but with something so enticing, the crowds will come. So folks, that's it for another year. Thanks for following and a Merry Christmas to you all.

WE have been doing a lot more eating than hiking lately, so this week the Hungry Hikers decided it was time for a long, hard walk. We headed to Binna Burra to tackle some hilly terrain through the rainforest, exploring boulder-strewn mountain streams, dramatic lookouts, rugged cliffs, and plunging gorges. Of course that didn't mean we didn't do any eating. First there were Christmas treats for morning tea. There are many hiking trails to choose from, but we settled on the Bellbird Circuit. With a few side trips to scenic lookouts and waterfalls we ended up covering 18 kilometres, our longest walk this year. It was another excellent hike, and our aching feet, tired limbs and pesky ticks we took home with us were all worth it.
This week there was more razzle and dazzle and colour as we turned up for our annual pilgrimage to the Lord Mayor's Seniors Christmas Party at City Hall. The high tea followed by an excellent concert full of festive songs is unbeatable value at $5 a head and was, in our opinion, the best one yet. |
