White Rock was the highlight of the hike, and provided many dramatic photo shots. From every angle we were mesmerised by the shapes and colours of the weathered rock, the caves and the plants, the shadows and the light. The deep blue sky provided an excellent backdrop to add to the colour palette.. Leaving White Rock we followed a new trail along a ridge which seemed to go on forever. It wasn't marked on the map and we began to worry about which direction we were headed, but we eventually made it back to the main track after some more spectacular views all the way to the Brisbane City skyline. |
This week the Hungry Hikers rambled and scrambled around White Rock - Spring Mountain Conservation Estate, a totally new and very pleasant discovery for me. There are a variety of trails over 2,500 hectares, with the weathered rocky outcrops creating some interesting climbs and dramatic scenery. We began at the Paperbark Flats Picnic area at the end of School Road, off Redbank Plains Road and followed the White Rock Multi-user Trail. The track passed through a variety of vegetation from riparian to open eucalypt forest and rocky ridges. This hike now goes on my list of favourites. It was challenging, but not daunting. It was full of variety and the views were amazing. We only did 10 kilometres, but we might tackle the more challenging, 19 kilometre Yaddamun Trail sometime soon.
