Laurel Bank Park and Queens Park were both spectacular in their displays and our photos barely do them justice. The Carnival of Flowers never disappoints, no matter how the weather tests Toowoomba. Our senses were treated to a brilliant array of strong colours and scents and the hot sun was more successful in wilting us than the flowers. |
It's spring again, which means Carnival of Flowers time in Toowoomba, so this week we hiked around gardens and parks and took time to smell the roses, and the petunias, and the sweet peas and all the other glorious scents of flowers in full bloom. While gardens were ablaze with colour, this year's dreadful heat and lack of rain was evident in the fewer blooms, especially at Spring Bluff. Spring Bluff is a gorgeous little station in a tranquil, natural setting near Murpheys Creek.. The spring display is stunning, and thousands of visitors each September enjoying the magnificent display of poppies, ranunculus, stock, snapdragons, petunias and many other annuals bursting into colour. We were lucky enough to arrive just before a train load of tourists from Toowoomba, so we looked around in peace, then enjoyed morning tea as we watched their train arrive. Leaving Spring Bluff, we continued on up the range and visited a few private gardens entered in this year's competition. Their colour and creativity was impressive and provided an enjoyable few hours of exploration before heading on to public gardens.
