We started at Ken Fletcher Park which runs alongside the Brisbane River, with a few remnants of the power station left behind: rusty beams and brickwork. Built on 2.9 hectares of land, formerly the site of the Tennyson Power Station, this park has lovely lawns, walkways and an exciting playground built to reflect the history of the site. |
This week the hungry hikers actually hiked. The overcast skies broke only once with a good steady shower of rain, but we soldiered on and enjoyed a lovely walk along the Brisbane River from the Qld Tennis Centre at Yeerongpilly, through Tennyson and over Oxley Creek into Graceville. Spring was definitely in the air with flowers blooming everywhere and brightening the cloudy day. After admiring the prestigious homes fronting the river along King Arthur Terrace we crossed Oxley Creek, followed Graceville Riverside Parklands and continued through Faulkner Park as far as the huge array of netball courts belonging to the Western Districts Netball Association before turning back. Of course, you can't take the 'hungry' out of the hungry hikers, so we finished our walk at Cafe 63 in Yeronga, an old favourite which never disappoints. Lincoln burgers all round! They may not be the best thing on the menu, but we will never know because we love them so much we always order them. And so ended another happy hiking day.
